MPSI Principal’s House
The MPSI Principal’s House is made of wood and was built between 1919 and 1922. The design of this building incorporates local and English home designs. It is located just off the Suluh Budiman Building and at the edge of the Astakona Park. The house was originally planned to be used as the residence of the SITC Deputy Principal. However, at the point of its completion, the post of SITC Deputy Principal was not filled (this post was filled for the first time in 1946) so the house has been used as the residence of English lecturers. In 1958, the first principal of SITC to reside in this house was Mr. Zainal Abidin bin Mohd Ali. He was the first Malay to be the principal of the Sultan Idris Teachers’ College (MPSI). It is located not far from the Bangunan Suluh Budiman and beside Taman Astakona. Since then, the building is officially known as the MPSI Principal’s House. The building now houses the main office of the National Education Museum, under the management of the Sultan Idris Education University.
